Thanks to the good regular royalty statements for "Image Broker" I can now and then (actually too often) "immodesty", and set myself a new toy. Or in other words replace an old toy with a new one. Until now I've used the Lumix LX-3 as a compact camera and was pleased with her right. Of course such a digital camera is not meant to replace SLR, since only very careful use (RAW file, 80 ISO, good lighting conditions) these pictures for photo agencies are acceptable. For snapshots during a bike ride, which one has done it 20 times a camera is more than adequate. And also for use in regional tourism brochures is the quality OK, as most require no more than A5 size print. The operation of the LX-3 is not bad, but some things I was always a little irritated, so the silver directional buttons, the caption (engraving) is readable little, or the unfortunate lens cap, must take down the one before the Camera turns on (or just keep the camera in a case to protect without the lens). As have other small neoprene bags worth. The small but zoom range is another drawback (24-60 mm Kb), but the optics for low light with f2, 0 to 2.8, the sensor is a little larger with 1/1.63 ".
striking in comparison with the new Nikon P7000, which stores the Lumix little faster, the data again and ready for the next shot is. Of course, for wide-angle fans, the 24 mm and the various image formats such as 4:3 and 16:9 advantage of the Lumix, I though the 4.3 Format is agreeable, and I compose in need of more wide-angle multiple shots (portrait, in manual mode) to an image, with the pleasant side effect of the higher resolution.
While I was at the Lumix still with some menu items to start looking, has the operation of the Coolpix for me from the beginning without problems, which is partly due to the many function keys, but probably also to similarities to the DSLR housings for Nikon I even used. Another important difference between the Nikon RAW format, not surprisingly, NRW NEF, but it works with both Nikon View 2 (free), but also in Capture NX 2 is very good (except for the NX 2, the principle unstable software, I know). The quality of the raw files is similar, but the P7000 has an advantage in the iso range, so 100 Iso in P are as good as 80 Iso in the Lumix 7000th The higher Iso were already at the Lumix surprisingly well, at least up to ISO 400, which in the P7000 is still a little better, the noise performance is generally good for a compact camera, disappear without too many details due to the noise suppression. The screen of the P7000 dissolves very high and the Live View images can also be seen from the side very well, which can get over the lack of a rotating and swiveling display. This is the camera more compact and lighter than the Canon G11 and has a better zoom range that goes even up to 200 mm. The small optical viewfinder of the P7000 is in bright sunlight, or when power consumption will be out a useful thing. The hot shoe is fully functional, supports i-TTL and can be combined with any Nikon Speedlight SB, although only the SB-400 in size makes sense. Another positive aspect is that the P700 can be induced in contrast to the Lumix with an infrared triggers such as the ML-L3 immediately with 2 or 10 sec delay. Ideal if you want to be in group pictures with it. Of course, the Coolpix slightly larger and heavier (350 grams with battery and memory card to 270 gr for the Lumix), but can be good in a little wear on a belt, or even in a store Raddress in one of the three back pockets.

Another tip: It pays not only the small infrared triggers to carry, but also a small piece of diffuser film, you can hold in front of the built-in flash for macro shots. For intelligent manner, the built-in flash also control manually to 1 / 64 Performance.
is also worth mentioning another digital gray filter, the longer exposure times makes it possible eg. useful for the veil effect in flowing water, because due to the diffraction blur, which is the smallest sensor uses very early in the P7000 is the smallest adjustable aperture f8.
for such long exposure times, it is necessary to well-functioning image stabilizer off to go to 100 iso (turn off Auto ISO) and the infrared remote shutter release to use. But has my little carbon fiber tripod by Benro (see previous post) is very successful, with the P7000 natural light and is an ideal combination.
