New: 28-300 VR zoom for full frame Super a few preliminary observations:
Provided by NPS Nikon Vienna, I was able to test this new lens for a week. was tested
the lens from the tripod on my D3x (Gitzo carbon with Markins ball head) with mirror lockup and cable release.
at pixel peeping I'm not very interested, I always make a test series with a new lens from my terrace towards the church and use the brick wall of my neighbors as a focal point. Here I see very quickly whether a lens has major problems. If it's OK I'll take it easy on some photo shoots with in my area, so a practice test.

In short, it is amazing, the Nikon lens in such a relatively compact this wide zoom range could pack into it, without compromising image quality coarser. In the wide angle one must already have at BL 8 dim too sharp around the edges. Central but it is always good. When you contrast it is a little sluggish, as the 24-70/2, 8 Only 50 mm, the sharpness of the edges is not as good, even when dimmed. A typical behavior of super zooms, not all focal length settings are equally good. From 70 mm upwards, it is not quite comparable to my 70-300 VR, which also supplies the D3x still useful results (but the comparison test came out weaknesses in the 70-300, I can not fully explain, the lens must be well with the Nikon Service to be tested). (G 800 g versus 745) with only a slight increase in weight that is a very versatile lens for full frame. On a D700, the lens does very well and is a good choice for travel.
On the D300 the 28-300 VR but is slightly bulky, although the combination gives the DX 10-24 mm lens a delightful combination, the 16-450 mm effective cover. Sense makes an FX (full frame) lens on a DX sensor camera with very well, as the weaknesses disappear at the edge of an open aperture, which occur in FX, practical.
The processing of the lens is good, just the clatter of plastic sun visor sucks. The zoom ring is somewhat stiff, but Zoom Creep prevents good. Autofocus is pretty fast, but not as good as in naru 70-200/2, 8
is at 200 mm is already at the minimum BL 5.6, as is the 70-300 a bit brighter.
At 300 mm aperture and strong Randabdunklung.
close range over the entire zoom range at 0.5 m, which is the telephoto zoom, but achieved through drastic reduction, so that the image scale is only a little better than the 70-300 VR.
Conclusion: a good and universal look that lends itself always where you want to be with a little photo of luggage. It is conceivable, for example. combine for city trips this look with a PC-E 24mm.
